Thanks for writing this! I love Lewis more than most of my friends, but they're horrified by the changes she's making. I tell them I'm going into it not expecting the book, but curious what she'll do with it. I appreciate you giving me so many ways to back this up!
I love this quote especially, "For the Westerner, truth is absolute. For the Easterner, truth is dynamic." Amen to that. And I really *want* to agree with you in this because, for most things, I would agree. And I think there will absolutely be aspects of this film that will be filled with truth and new perspective. But the one thing that stops me from being able to agree is that knowing what we do of Gerwig and the creative choices so far, I think deconstruction is going to play a thematic role. I don't dislike a well done deconstruction story (or a well done feminist story either for that matter). But I think trying to blend that with Narnia does miss the heart of the story entirely.
it's not that it's "core to my faith," it's that it's likely to be like Netflix's Resident Evil series in that it's probably not going to be anything like the property it is based on, and it is the only adaptation besides the old BBC series. Essentially it's going to suck, because of Gerwig.
Not sure why people don't get this. One of the big conservative arguments over this in general is they hate films that try to do their own things instead of just adapt faithfully the thing they decided to make. Zach Creggar's Resident Evil film got this too, there's debate on how good or true it is to the mythos.
Netflix in general is known for not adapting things well, the devil may cry series comes to mind.
Netflix has a reputation, true. But I think the reason we'll get a movie that doesn't suck is *because of* Gerwig and Pascal.
I think we have to come to terms with the inherent risk in any adaptations being made -- it's not just a "conservative argument" -- that the person making the adaptation is going to desire to do their own thing. Probably because they see something interesting in the source material that they want to bring forth. Like, that's the gig.
Gosh, Greta citing that William Blake quote took my breath away; good catch on your part. I’m grateful for your prophetic voice, friend! 🤘✨

Thank you, Marian! And I respect your position as well!
